The Waxahachie school district’s annual event, Operation First Day of School, is scheduled to take place Saturday, Aug. 1, with nearly 20 local sponsors aiding the event so far.

The event will go from 8 to 11 a.m. at Clift Elementary, providing school supplies and backpacks for students in need. Clift Elementary is located on 650 Parks School House Road in Waxahachie.

Due to COVID-19, "this year’s event is a drive-through event, and attendees should follow the signage to get in line for supplies," said Jenny Bridges, the public relations director for WISD. "This event happens each year through the generosity of a number of businesses and organizations."

Of these businesses and organizations, she named the following that are helping sponsor the event:

Citizens National Bank of Texas

Waxahachie Junior Service League

HEB

Waxahachie Foundation

Men’s Downtown Bible Class

Christ the King Lutheran Church

The Avenue Church

What’s Happening Now

First United Methodist Church

Waxahachie Bible Church

Farley Street Baptist Church

First Baptist Church

Primera Baptist Church

Freedom Fellowship

Connect4Life Church

Hope Clinic

REACH Council

The district is looking to partner with more businesses, organizations, churches and individuals to help acquire school supplies, monetary donations and volunteers to help run the event. Monetary donations are being accepted until July 30.

Additionally, dozens of volunteers are giving up their time to help the event be a success.

According to a news release, since 2009, Operation First Day of School has assisted more than 4,000 families and more than 10,000 children. Operation First Day of School will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
