On July 1, the City of Waxahachie announced that the city is now a certified Music Friendly Community.
On June 30, a virtual certification ceremony was held with the Texas Music Office. This was the first virtual ceremony the Texas Music Office has held.
The plan is to do an in-person celebration when things go back to normal.
Beginning in July, the city will present a Live-'N-Local Virtual Showcase.
In a facebook post, Railyard Park Waxahachie stated, "If you are an artist in Waxahachie or Ellis County, be on the lookout for an email or call. If you do not hear anything by July 10, feel free to reach out to Kelly Skistimas at 469-309-4051 or firstname.lastname@example.org."
In a video, Skistimas shared that this will only be the beginning for the city.
"As you guys know, music is already at the heart of many things we do here in the city, from our festivals and events." Skitmas said. "We just plan to use that foundation as a really good jumping-off point to grow this program."
Additionally, the virtual ceremony video can be found on the Railyard Park Waxahachie Facebook page.
