On May 30, the Waxahachie Kayak Club was created on Facebook to invite community members to kayak together.

Waxahachie resident, Katrina Rabien, created the Kayak Club because she wanted to have a group to enjoy the hobby with.

“Well my kayak had been sitting in my parents barn forever but during quarantine my friend Lauren Campbell and I started kayaking,” Rabien shared. “However she is moving back to Houston and I was sad that I wouldn't have anyone to kayak with anymore, so I started the facebook group to see if I could find anyone who wanted to kayak this summer. Two days later, there are 186 members.”

On Sunday June 7, Rabien is planning a get together at the newly-renovated at the Waxahachie lake pavilion. This event is set to take place at 2 p.m.

“New Kayak Club! Join if you want to paddle the lake and/or creeks and hang out and grill after!” the Facebook page stated.

The group is open to anyone in Ellis County, but does not exclude other cities.

“Some people have suggested going to further away places in the future as a group, such as the Brazos River (Glen Rose maybe). That might be fun,” Rabien shared.
