The Texas Girls Coaches Association has announced its all-state girls’ basketball teams, with a trio of student-athletes from Ellis County earning honors.

Red Oak sophomore Breanna Davis was named to the Class 5A TGCA all-state team after leading the Lady Hawks to the District 14-5A championship and appearance in the Class 5A Region II tournament.

In Class 3A, Maypearl seniors Lillie Beason and Sol Cabuto garnered all-state selections after they helped the Lady Panthers to a 26-win season, a district runner-up finish and a three-round advance in the playoffs.

The TGCA selects All-State teams in all six conferences in basketball. Athletes are nominated by their member coaches. Coaches must be a member of TGCA in good standing before Nov. 1 of the school year to be eligible to nominate athletes or receive honors.

Selections are made by the TGCA Basketball All-State Committee at their annual meeting during the UIL girls’ state basketball tournament. Athletes may be any classification from grades 9-12. The committee may select up to 50 athletes per conference.

Additionally, the TGCA announced its academic all-state girls’ basketball teams, and six players from Ellis County were named. In Class 3A, Maypearl’s Beason and Cabuto were on this team as well.

Midlothian High School senior Hallie Mayfield was named to the 5A academic all-state team, and Ferris seniors Victoria Coronado and Brianna Ibarra and Midlothian Heritage‘s Blythe Williams were named to the 4A academic team.

The TGCA selects Academic All-State teams in basketball in all six conferences. Athletes and support staff (managers, stats keepers, equipment managers, trainers, etc.) must be a senior and must have a GPA of 94 or above for grades 9-11.

Athletes and support staff are nominated by their member coaches. The head varsity coach of the team must be a member of TGCA by Nov. 1 of the nominating year to be eligible to nominate or receive honors.
