Life School held virtual cheerleading tryouts in response to the extension of the Ellis County “shelter-in-place” order.

“We still wanted to give our girls the opportunity because it means a lot to them to be able to try out for the team. They put in a lot of work this year and they really wanted to see the fruits of their labor,” shared Kirstein Andrew, LHSW Head Cheer Coach, in a Facebook post from Life School.

The “stay home, stay safe” orders in effect did not stop Andrew from forming her team for the incoming school year.

According to a Facebook post from Life School, the tryouts were originally scheduled before Spring Break but were postponed when the LHSW’s boys varsity basketball team made the Area Championship playoffs.

There were a total of 55 candidates and 165 videos submitted. The try-out process included an interview and self-evaluation of each applicant and three routine video submissions.

Afterwards, each contender was given a score by an outside panel of judges provided by the Varisty Spirit company. Judging concluded on April 7.

The 2020-2021 Middle, JV, and Varsity Cheer Squad results were shared on LHSW’s athletics website.
