The Life Waxahachie Mustangs will open the 2020 football season on the road Aug. 28 at Waco Connally and will close out with a District 5-4A (Division I) game at defending Class 4A Division I state runner-up Waco La Vega on Nov. 6, the team has announced.

The Mustangs, who were 7-4 a year ago, will play their home opener on Sept. 4 against former district rival Athens, then will cross the Metroplex to take on Pilot Point on Sept. 11 before hosting Caddo Mills on Sept. 18. The Mustangs have also scheduled a neutral-site contest against Texarkana Liberty-Eylau on Sept. 25, but the site for that game has not been determined.

All games are scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m.

District play begins for Life on Oct. 9 at Mustang Stadium against Alvarado. The Mustangs will also host Midlothian Heritage and Brownwood in 5-4A action while traveling to Stephenville and La Vega.

The Mustangs are coached by Micah Stanley, who was elevated from offensive coordinator to head coach in December after the resignation of former head coach Heath Blalock.

In 2019, Blalock coached the Mustangs to the playoffs for the fifth time in his six seasons there, but the team suffered a bi-district loss to Palestine. Blalock has since accepted the head coaching position at Prairiland High School, a 3A school east of Paris in Lamar County.
