Brad Norman and incumbent Sheriff Chuck Edge appear to be headed to a run-off after coming in first and second in a three-person race for Ellis County Sheriff, according to unofficial primary election results released Tuesday.

Norman received 45.6 percent of the 12,350 votes cast, with Edge receiving 35.9 percent and Charlie Daniels at 18.6 percent. Because no candidate received a majority, Norman and Edge will likely go to a run-off elected later in the spring.

Edge was appointed to the post in 2017 to finish the term of Johnny Brown, who resigned.

Norman previously said he was running “to lead the Sheriff’s Office through the changes and past the challenges that accompany the new growth in Ellis County.”
