Red Oak Independent School District’s Council of Parent-Teacher Associations, an umbrella organization for the PTAs with the district, is calling on volunteers to fill council positions for the 2020-2021 school year.

The open positions include president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, membership chair and reflections chair.

The duties of the membership chair include setting membership goals, calendaring events and activities throughout the school year and submitting a budget to support the membership program.

“Membership gets all local [PTA] dues to state and gives all locals any and all membership info from Texas PTA,” outgoing president Melani McGinley added.

The reflections chair oversees the reflections program, an arts recognition and achievement program that allows students to express themselves and compete in dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.

“The chair coordinates with all local reflection chairs,” McGinley said.

Council members can only serve for two years.

“My time has been amazing the last two years,” she explained. “I work closely with the district and local schools and get to give back to children. The fulfillment you get when you see your board’s hard work through children, it makes it worth it.”

Anyone interested in serving on the council should reach out to Melani McGinley at no later than March 15.

Elections will be held on April 16 during a council meeting.

The local PTAs are open to all interested parents. Contact your child’s school for more information.
