DESOTO — The Class 5A No. 3-ranked Red Oak Lady Hawks got pushed by Lancaster, but came away with a 63-50 victory on Monday night in the Class 5A Region II quarterfinals at DeSoto High School.

The Lady Hawks (29-6) will take on ether Frisco Centennial or Frisco Liberty in the Region II semifinals on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland. The final is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Aniyah Johnson led the way this time for Red Oak with 16 points, while Breanna Davis added 13 and Amyia Bowie 11. Deja Davis and Aliyah Harden had eight points each and Micah Cooper finished with seven.

The first quarter was a battle as Lancaster took a 16-15 lead to end the period. But the Lady Hawks took over from there and outscored the Lady Tigers 17-7 to go up by nine at intermission.

Skylar Barnes led Lancaster with 17 points, followed by Aysia Ward and Jamerya Harper with 10 each and Kamryn Anderson with nine.

In Friday’s area round, the Lady Hawks advanced with an 81-43 rout of Mount Pleasant at Royse City High School. Cooper and Breanna Davis led with 17 points apiece, and Harden added a dozen.

Other scorers for Red Oak were Bowie with eight, Deja Davis and Johnson with six each, Makaila Brown and Michaela Ballard with four each, De’odrianna Medlock with three, and Halei Parks and Calijah Peay with two each.

The middle two periods told the tale against Mount Pleasant. Red Oak battled to a 16-12 lead after eight minutes of play, but then the Lady Hawks flipped the switch and outscored the Lady Tigers 25-5 to assume complete control, 41-17. The Lady Hawks then tacked on 25 more points in the third quarter to push the margin into the 30s.

Two other local girls teams were scheduled to try to make it to the region tournament on Tuesday night.

Midlothian (23-13) was to face 5A No. 13 Jacksonville in Eustace in the 5A Region II quarterfinals, with the winner facing Frisco Lone Star in Friday’s semifinals in Garland; while in 3A Region III, Maypearl (26-7) was to take on 3A No. 23 Franklin at Waco University High School.
