One year after being named the principal of Margaret L Felty Elementary in Waxahachie, longtime Waxahachie ISD educator Darla Wilson is set to leave that role at the end of the school year in May.

Wilson will take on the same position at the newly built Max H Simpson Elementary when it opens in August.

The announcement was made at a school board meeting, Monday.

“We had been looking for a principal for Simpson Elementary and we have one…,” Superintendent Dr. Bonny Cain confirmed. “Miss Darla Wilson has done such an excellent job at Felty. We have asked her to become the principal of Simpson.” – Superintendent.

Wilson has been a part of the district for some 27 years. Before rising to the role of principal at Felty last year, she was an assistant principal. She first joined the school as a teacher when it opened in 2008.

The Waxahachie native has also taught at Wilemon STEAM Academy and Dunaway Elementary School.

The Board also approved the hire of Tanisha Malone, a Richardson ISD elementary school assistant principal. It has not been announced if Malone will lead Felty.

“We don’t know where Ms. Malone will be a principal next year,” District Spokesperson Jenny Bridges said in a statement. “We have two campuses with openings, so we are going to wait to hire a second principal before we make a decision on where each of them will go.”

Marvin Elementary will also have a new principal when Christy Bailey leaves the district at the end of the school year, Bridges confirmed.
