DESOTO — The Class 6A No. 17-ranked Waxahachie Runnin’ Indians fell behind by double digits in the first half and were unable to overcome it as No. 12 DeSoto prevailed, 53-45, on Tuesday night in District 7-6A boys basketball action.

The host Eagles avenged a 75-58 loss to the Runnin’ Indians on Jan. 3 at Mike Turner Gymnasium. WHS dropped its third straight road game, all against ranked opponents.

Jalen Lake led the Indians with 18 points, while BJ Francis added 13. CJ Noland, the team’s leading scorer on the year, was held to five; and AJ Russ also scored five points for WHS.

DeSoto led 14-9 after one period of play, and widened it to a 28-17 edge at the half. The Indians tried to battle back by getting to within 10 to start the fourth quarter, but the mountain was too tall to climb.

The Indians (22-6, 5-3) were set to host Cedar Hill on Friday night at Mike Turner Gymnasium. They will also host Mansfield Lake Ridge next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

In the girls’ game earlier on Tuesday, the Class 6A No. 2-ranked Lady Eagles took the win, 80-18. The Lady Indians (8-19, 1-9), after Friday night’s home contest against Cedar Hill, will host Lake Ridge on Tuesday evening.
