The Waxahachie Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Coleman Junior High student who was allegedly shot and killed Thursday night, police said.

In a press release, police said the department was dispatched at around 10:14 p.m. to the 800 block of E. Main Street and MLK Jr. Boulevard following reports of gunshots being fired.

“Upon arrival, officers located an individual inside a residence with a gunshot wound,” the release said.

The victim was reportedly transferred to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie where he/she was pronounced dead.

The individual, whose identity is being withheld, was reportedly a student at Coleman Junior High.

“Waxahachie ISD grieves along with our student’s family and friends,” District Spokesman Jenny Bridges said. “We are providing support to students and staff members at Coleman Junior High and other campuses affected by this tragic loss.”
