Mike retired in 2011 and began exploring life in Colombia and Panama. He ultimately settled in Panama, calling it his home away from home. He would travel up to twice per year and spent time enjoying the outdoors, culture, and surrounded by many loving friends he met along the way. Some of those friends include, Steve Pearson and wife Ludo, John and Nancy Sennott, William McKee all wonderful friends in Las Tablas, Panama. When Mike returned home, he enjoyed sharing a cup of coffee at Cancun’s or with neighbors Clarence Chamberlin and wife Marvel. Mike never met a stranger and often times would feed the homeless, visit with local shelters and provide Christmas to many children in need. Mike was a giver of all things. While in Las Tablas, he partnered with the Nutre Hogar, a home for local children in need, volunteering to do various maintenance jobs, while supporting the organization and spending time with the children of that home. The slogan of Nutre Hogar is “cada dia mejor” and that is exactly how Mike lived his life. Mike made an impact on every single person he met and he was a humble man.
Mike leaves behind a great legacy of love and generosity that will live on forever. In lieu of flowers, the family will be collecting monetary donations to send to Nutre Hogar located in Las Tablas, Panama. There will be a celebration of his life held at his home at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2020 in Waxahachie.
