City officials in Waxahachie have yet to decide how the shuttered Baylor Medical Center at 1405 W. Jefferson St. will be used, according to a city spokesperson.

“I am sure there will be several good options discussed, but no concrete plans have been decided at this point,” Communications Director Amy Borders said.

The Waxahachie City Council formally accepted the donation during a council meeting on Jan. 6 that was attended by Will Turner, president of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie, located at 2400 N. I-35E.

“As a nonprofit healthcare entity, I think it is our mission to improve the lives and make better the community that we serve, and just really excited about the possibility of being able to donate the 80 acres over at the old campus,” said Turner in his address to the Council. “We see so many great things going on in the community and so, hopefully, this will be a great donation to benefit and make something awesome of the facility someday.”

The property, valued at over $6.6 million, according to Ellis County Appraisal District, has been vacant since Dec. 2014.
