DUNCANVILLE — The Red Oak Lady Hawks got the Duncanville Shootout off to a winning start on Thursday as they knocked off Dallas Bishop Lynch, 2-0, in their first game of the tournament.

Freshman Georgia Santos and sophomore Sarah Zamora helped each other break a scoreless deadlock at the half. Zamora assisted on Santos’ goal, and Santos assisted on Zamora’s goal to bring home the Red Oak victory.

Junior Alyssa Francis and sophomore Megan Fellows each made three saves in goal and shared the clean sheet.

The Lady Hawks continued tournament play against Dallas Ursuline on Friday afternoon, with a third match against Dallas Madison at noon on Saturday.

On Tuesday, freshman Santos recorded her second career hat trick as the Lady Hawks (5-1-2) claimed a 4-1 win against Irving Nimitz. Santos had earlier scored five goals in Red Oak’s 12-0 win against Dallas A+ Academy.

Zamora added a goal, Fellows had two assists, and Alexis Roman and Brenna Douthit chipped in with an assist apiece.

District 14-5A play begins for the Lady Hawks next Friday at home against Joshua.

Boys: Red Oak 1, Ferris 1

FERRIS — Red Oak sophomore Sammy Benavidez scored a late goal on Tuesday night as the Hawks salvaged a 1-1 draw against Ferris to stay unbeaten in non-district boys soccer action.

The Yellowjackets jumped ahead 1-0 in the first half as freshman Jesus Garcia scored, and Ferris kept the lead through halftime until Benavidez’s leveling goal.

The Hawks (3-0-2) were scheduled to compete in a weekend tournament in Terrell, facing Sunnyvale and Terrell on Friday and Paris on Saturday morning.
