Ralph J. Helm, Jr., “JR,” age 72 of Waxahachie, passed away on November 17, 2019, at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Waxahachie, Texas, with his family by his side. JR was born in Liberal, Kansas, in 1946 to the late Ralph J. and Marjorie Helm.

At a young age, JR’s family moved to the Fort Worth area. After school JR was proud to serve his country in the United States Air Force, including one year of active duty in Vietnam. He served 47 years in the enforcement of Federal, State and Municipal laws, including Juvenile Officer, Crime Prevention Officer, Detective of the Crimes against Persons Division, Narcotics Investigator, Deputy Marshal, Police Captain, Patrolman, Senior Forensic Death Investigator and Sheriff’s Deputy.

JR retired from the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department in 2016. He was a Master Mason in Community Masonic Lodge and life member of the National Rifle Association. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, leather crafting and summer vacations with the family.

His grandsons say that vacations will not be the same without him. JR held his family close to his heart and enjoyed attending family celebrations. He enjoyed hunting with his son Todd and going to the farm was an annual trip.  

JR is survived by his wife Carole Helm of Waxahachie, son Todd Helm of Weatherford, stepson Lin Bradley of Fort Worth, Texas and stepdaughter Robin and husband Kyle Butler and three grandsons Rafe, Rhett and Ridge Butler all of Waxahachie, Texas. He is also survived by numerous cousins and lifelong friends.  

Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Sunday, November 24, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie. A celebration of life will be held Monday, November 25, 2019, at 12:00 p.m. at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home chapel in Waxahachie. Interment will follow at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas at 2:30 p.m.
