ENNIS — Ennis was ready to rumble this past Friday night at their own Memorial Stadium, and the Frisco Reedy Lions were their first victims in a dominating statement game in the bi-district round of the state playoffs for 2019. The E-Lions were convincing on both sides of the ball, as they left no doubt concerning who was the better team this season, as they rolled to a 34-0 win.

Last year’s encounter against these same teams, had left the Ennis Lions licking their wounds, as Reedy crushed their playoff dreams with a 47-21 victory in their home site at The Star venue in Frisco. There would be no celebration for the R-Lions this year, as the E-Lions ruled the game from start to finish, with Ennis scoring touchdowns on their first two possessions, and never looked back.

Reedy’s quarterback Jalen Kitna, son of former Dallas Cowboy Jon Kitna, didn’t have a good evening, as their entire offense was held to a total of 134 yards for the game by the EHS defense, who seemed to be on a mission Friday night. The younger Kitna (a junior) was only 7 of 17 in passing and was sacked six times (3 ½ sacks by Ennis’ Jarveon Williams).

The real spark plug for Ennis’ offense was senior RB Dyllan Santos (a/k/a “Pac Man”) who led the balanced rushing attack of 100 yards and 1 touchdown. Also, big contributors were QB Collin Drake (1 TD), RB Jarius Jones (1 TD), and Laylon Spencer (1 receiving TD for 49 yards).

On the EHS defensive side, junior Caden Hubbard and sophomore Devion Beasley, stepped-up to snatch two interceptions thrown by Reedy’s Kitna. Other big playmakers on “D” were: Jarveon Williams, Ashton McGraw, Deryous Stokes, and Isaiah Nies.

The Ennis Lions (10-1) won the coin toss for the next playoff site, so they will enjoy another “home” game next Friday evening, as they will play host to Burleson’s Centennial High School (10-1) in the next round. The game is slated for a 7:30 kickoff at the Lions Memorial Stadium on Friday night.
