The Red Oak Independent School District is kicking off a week of Veterans Day celebrations, and the community is invited.

The events start on Nov. 5 with Red Oak Elementary in performance at the Red Oak High School Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m.

Veterans and guests are invited to a breakfast at the high school on Nov. 8 at 8:30 a.m. After breakfast, the heroes will be recognized during an assembly at 10:15 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Attendants must RSVP by Nov. 7.

The celebrations end on Veteran’s Day – Nov. 11 – at Red Oak Middle School in the gymnasium. The program starts at 9 am.

Veterans and current servicemen and women are invited to a celebration at the Waxahachie High School Performing Arts Center on Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served. To RSVP, send an email to or

“Please allow us to honor you,” noted the district on a flyer advertisement.

The Italy Independent School District’s program takes place at Italy High School inside the Dome on Nov. 11 at 9 a.m.

“Join us as we honor our bravest and pause in tribute to those who sacrificed on behalf of our country to protect our freedoms,” the district said in a flyer advertisement.

Veterans Day is observed annually in the U.S. on Nov. 11. Military veterans are honored for their service in the armed forces. The holiday is not to be confused with the Memorial Day holiday, which is observed on the last Monday in May. Memorial Day honors those who died in the line of duty.
