Katy Clark did not prepare a speech ahead of the ceremonial ribbon cutting inside Vaqueras Boutique on Thursday. And it was likely best that she didn’t, as speaking to a room full of people is often more natural when it comes from the heart.
Her heart, along with those of fellow co-owners Misty Trevino and Brandy Ray, was full, too.
“I just found out that I had to say something,” Clark began as the roughly 40 Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce members and a smattering of shoppers standing elbow to elbow laughed.
“I just want to thank everyone for coming," she continued. "We were worried that there would be five people here and we would look silly in our picture but y’all totally surprised us and we thank you."
Vaqueras Boutique first opened its doors at 104 N. College St. on the ground level of the Rogers Hotel in March. At the time, it was the sixth business to open on the downtown Waxahachie square in 2019. There have been four others to open doors since.
Clark explained Thursday that the three wanted to ensure that "all of the kinks" were worked out before officially inviting over the Chamber.
"Waxahachie has treated us so well, and so have all of our fellow boutiques who are here," Clark said. "I don’t know where else that would happen. We have such a great support system. Thank you all so much for coming.”
Vaqueras Boutique began as The Wandering Cactus, a traveling boutique and party bus with an online shopping component. The successes found on Facebook and their website eventually led the three entrepreneurs to open a brick-and-mortar storefront and downtown Waxahachie offered the perfect 1,000-square-foot location.
The average price for clothing at Vaqueras is around $30. There is also a multitude of accessories to choose from.
The three ladies pride their storefront on offering trendy, casual, boutique-style clothing that suits most occasions and body types. They also limit any article of clothing to 21 days on the rack and work to cycle through styles regularly.
The boutique is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. — 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. — 4 p.m.
