Jack Armstrong was welcomed into the gates of heaven on July 1, 2019 by his Lord and Savior, his beloved wife Jeanne, many family members and friends. Jack was born on April 20,1937 in Byrd, Texas. He graduated from Ennis High in 1955 and earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from The University of Houston. Jack served his country proudly in the United States Air Force Reserves.
On May 30, 1958, he married the love of his life, Betty “Jeanne” Vanderslice and they made their home in Pasadena, Texas before Jack’s career took them to Abilene in 1968, Desoto, Texas in 1977, and Spring, Texas in 1985, before returning to their beloved Ennis in 1995.
As a newlywed, Jack worked at General Motors before beginning his career with the Reliable Life Insurance Company, where he worked for 35 years. He worked his way up through the ranks from insurance agent to Executive Vice-President of the fire company, Capitol County Mutual.
Jack was a member and Deacon of Tabernacle Baptist Church for many years before joining Baylor Baptist Church in 2018. He was also an active member in the Ennis Noon Lions’ Club. Jack was a devoted husband to Jeanne for almost 60 years, he was a loving father and father-in-law, and the best Big Daddy to his five beloved granddaughters. Jack loved the Lord and loved sharing that love with others.
Jack was preceded in death by his mother and father, Wornie Green and Lena Armstrong, his brothers: W.F. Armstrong and Sam Armstrong, his sisters Mae Dean Fincher, Bettie Jo Mach, Lois Marie Armstrong, and his grandparents Samuel and Nancy Armstrong.
Jack is survived by a loving family that will miss him greatly including his sons Greg Armstrong and his wife Viana, Jeff Armstrong and his wife Kelli, and their five granddaughters Hannah Armstrong, Cristian Armstrong, Alyssa Armstrong, Kendyll Armstrong, and Karrah Armstrong along with a host of extended family and friends that loved him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in honor of Jack Armstrong to the Parkinson’s Foundation or to the Ennis Noon Lions’ Club. The family would like to especially thank the staff at Legends Oaks and at Traditions Health for their care of Jack.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2019 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis
A Celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 10 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rev. Chet Hensley officiating. Interment will follow in Grady Cemetery of Rankin under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
