Mrs. Emily Romelda Byrd (McClintock), of Midlothian, TX, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the age of 70.

Emily was born to parents Wilbur Briscoe McClintock and Mary Romelda (Bishop) McClintock in Memphis, TN on November 25, 1948. She graduated from Overton High School (1966) and Memphis State University (1970.) She married Kenneth Byrd in 1975 and the couple had one daughter, Stephanie.

Emily loved children and teaching. She taught mathematics in Deer Park, TX for 15 years before relocating to DeSoto, TX where she began substitute teaching and volunteering in school libraries. She became the school librarian at Red Oak Intermediate school in 2001 where she happily encouraged and supported young readers until her retirement in 2012.

Emily was a passionate librarian, an avid gardener, a super shopper, and an expert researcher.

Emily is survived by husband, Kenneth Byrd of Midlothian, TX; daughter, Stephanie and her husband Brian Oliver; grandson Sebastian Oliver; sister Nancy and her husband Harry Leuer; niece Lisa, her husband Jimmy, and their son Andrew Varnavas; and nephew John Sheridan. Emily is preceded in death by Wilbur and Mary Romelda McClintock of Memphis, TN.

A memorial service is planned at the Midlothian Funeral Home on Friday May 24, 2019 between the hours of 5:30-6:30pm.
