A series of sanitary sewer overflows that exceeded 372,440 gallons took place throughout Waxahachie this past week.

The overflows occurred due to a significant amount of rainwater that infiltrated into the sanitary sewer collection system. The overflows began Thursday, May 2 around various sectors of the Mustang Creek Drainage Basin and ended around 4 p.m. the same day. Approximately 233,240 gallons flooded at 1400 East Jefferson Street and 139,200 gallons were flooded at 436 East Jefferson Street.

According to a press release, the city had measured approximately two inches of rainfall on Thursday. The overflows consisted of mainly rainwaters and very dilute wastewater.

All overflows identified were reported to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within 24 hours of discovery.
