Emily Janek continued her brilliant freshman season inside the circle with a no-hitter against Hubbard in the Italy Lady Gladiators 2A bi-district championship win Friday.

The victory was also the 100th for Italy head softball coach Tina Richards since she took over the reins of the program five years ago.

The Lady Gladiators scored in every inning except the fourth in the 11-1 run-rule win. They plated five of those runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and received a walk-off run when the Hubbard second baseman couldn't find the handle on a Sarah Sanders ground ball in the bottom of the sixth inning. Alex Jones, who reached on a walk, scored on the fourth Hubbard error of the ball game.

Andrea Galvan hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to provide the lone Lady Gladiators round-tripper.

As for Janek, she needed 109 pitches to record 17 strikeouts against Hubbard in her no-hit performance. She walked two but it was a pair of Italy errors and a dropped third strike that allowed the lone unearned run to cross the plate.

The win improved Italy to 16-5 on the season and moved the Lady Gladiators into the 2A area championship. A date, time and opponent for the series had not been set as of press time.
