A 34-year-old male suspect was shot Monday evening after allegedly stealing from the Red Oak Walmart and then threatening a male individual in front of his family.
The suspect, identified as Max Pryor, is in stable but critical condition after sustaining serious injuries from the gunshot wounds.
According to a Red Oak PD media release, Pryor was arguing with a male individual and his family outside of the Red Oak Walmart entrance, located at 100 Ryan Drive.
Pryor had stolen several items from the Walmart store as he was trying to leave. Employees were trying to detain him as he was leaving the store before he got into a verbal argument with the individual in question.
As the male individual attempted to leave with his family through the south end of the parking lot, Pryor chased down their vehicle at high speed. When he caught up to them, he exited his vehicle and started hitting the driver’s side of the vehicle, yelling profanities and threatening that he would “fight and kill him,” states the ROPD release.
The male individual inside the vehicle pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds toward Pryor, striking his pelvic region and hand. The individual and his family fled the scene and Red Oak Police officers responded at around 11:46 p.m. Officers treated Pryor with first aid and transported him by ambulance to Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
The shooter returned to the scene later with his family and is actively cooperating with Red Oak Police on the investigation.
Pryor has a previous arrest record for theft of property violations of less than $2,500, with his most recent arrest being on March 27 of last year, according to Ellis County jail logs.
