Red Oak High School One-Act Play student-actors placed first at the district and bi-district contests this week.

The students performed, “Digging Up the Boys,” by Laura Lundgren Smith, which tells the story of trapped miners in the 1930s Appalachia and the fearless woman who fights to rescue them.

Several students were recognized individually at the bi-district competition such as Drew Davis as Best Actor, Jayden Douglas as All-Star Cast, Aviery Boone with All-Star Crew, and Emma Cottrell and Omari Crocker received honorable mention.

The students will advance to the area contest that will take place on April 2 at Mabank High School.

“These young artists have built an impactful show,” said Red Oak High School theater teacher Joseph Thomas. “Both cast and crew are sophisticated, focused, and a joy to collaborate with. Region and state, here we come!”
