On Friday, March 15, 2019, Philip "Doc" Alan Veltman passed from this life to be with his Lord at the age of 71. Philip was born on January 16, 1948 in Huntington, Indiana to Willard and Dorothy (Mayfield) Veltman. He moved to Dallas in 1949 and graduated from Kimball High School in 1966. After graduating in the first class of Dallas Baptist College in 1970, he began a 12-year teaching/athletic training career at Skyline High School, DeSoto High School and Pine Tree High School in Longview.
In 1983, Philip began a new career with Dr. Pepper which lasted for 30 years. He enjoyed working there and spent many years representing Dr. Pepper at the Texas State Fair. He moved to Maypearl in 1990 where he spent the rest of his days. During his time in Maypearl, he served on the school board for 9 years and he was also an active member of CERT (Community Emergency Response Team).
Philip had many passions in his life, one of which was his faith. He hosted a country gospel show every Sunday night for 16 years on KBEC in Waxahachie. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Maypearl for 29 years.
Philip loved everything about trains, Dr. Pepper collectibles, traveling, sports and raising cows (which he named all of them). Most importantly, he loved God, his family and his friends. He will be remembered by his contagious smile, long bear hugs, quick wit, willingness to help others, and his ability to talk to strangers and make them feel like an instant friend.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Dorothy Veltman and his brother, Billy Veltman. He is survived by his twin brother, Paul Veltman and wife Shirley; brother, Steve Veltman and wife Rhonda; sisters, Sandi Coffman and husband Jim, Miki Canada and Lucretia Rowland; daughters, Stacey Callahan and husband Kevin, Carrie Bigbie and husband Jason; three adopted children; grandchildren Bailey and Noah Bigbie and Carson Callahan and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 10:00-11:00 AM at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Waxahachie with a funeral service directly following at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Maypearl Cemetery.
