Peggy Crabtree was appointed as the Chairwoman for the City of Waxahachie Cemetery Board during their board reorganization last week.
Crabtree was previously a member of the cemetery board before being promoted to Chairwoman during their regular board meeting Thursday, Jan. 10. The board’s previous chairman, Chad Hicks, stepped down to be a regular member on the board, along with current members Connie McGuire, Chelsea Holder and Perry Giles.
The board also approved its minutes for the Nov. 1 board meeting, which was the final of the year and where they approved tabling the reorganizing to Jan. 10. The board also heard a report on cemetery activities during the November session. During the fall, the board sold eight spaces and held nine services in September, sold seven spaces and held 10 services in October and added two full-time employees to the cemetery.
The board also discussed the deterioration of the veteran’s monument in the cemetery and concerns on a high sign to allow more trucks and equipment through the cemetery entrance. Director of Parks and Recreation John Smith said he would reach out to someone about preserving and reconstructing the veteran’s monument and would obtain new quotes for an entryway design and construction.
The Parks board also reorganized during its Jan. 10 meeting, although their structure remained unchanged. Chad Hicks remained as chairman, while Ginger Cole remained as vice chairman. Coy Sevier, William Major, Betsy Engelbrechtsen and Byron Gibson all remained as members of the board.
The board also approved meeting minutes from its Sept. 6 and Nov. 1 meetings, respectively. During their last meeting, the board received updates on upcoming park projects, including the construction of a restroom at Penn Park football field during phase 2 and the design of Little Creek Trail for phase 1.
The meeting adjourned within an hour with no further business.
