Martha Elizabeth Ratliff, age 74, formerly of Waxahachie, Texas passed away January 2, 2019 in Alabama. She was born January 23, 1944 in Brownwood, Texas to Jim and Esther (Gill) Ratliff. She graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1962. She spent 40 years in the law enforcement field in Ellis County. She started out as a dispatcher for Waxahachie Police Department and she also worked for the Ennis Police Department and with the majority of her career working for the Ellis County Sheriff Department. She was the first female Deputy in Ellis County. She earned Lieutenant and Chief Deputy status while working for Ellis County Sheriff Department. Martha retired in 2012 and moved to Brewton, Alabama.
Martha is survived by two sisters, Letha Spinks and husband Jimmy of Brewton, Alabama and Betty Sue Rider of Waxahachie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Esther Ratliff; three sisters, Molly Ratliff, Shirley Broome and Sandra Ratliff and two brothers, Jesse Ratliff and Jerry Paul Ratliff.
Graveside service and interment will be 10AM Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Waxahachie City Cemetery.
