Gladys Louise (Matthews) Griffith, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend went to her heavenly home on Thursday, January 3, 2019. She was born on February 21, 1943 at home in Silverton, Texas to her parents, Richard C. and Lillie (Helm) Matthews. At age 2 her family moved to the Providence community in Floyd County. Gladys was a 1961 high school graduate of Lockney High School. In 1969, she relocated to Liberal, Kansas to pursue her dream job with USD 480 as an administrative assistant at South Jr. High. In 1994, Gladys returned to her beloved home state of Texas relocating in Waxahachie, Texas, where she worked for Baylor Scott & White Hospital until retiring in 2016, with 25 years of service. She was baptized and confirmed member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Providence community in Lockney, Texas. Gladys will be forever remembered and deeply missed by her family and loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Lillie Matthew and the father of her children, Kenneth W. Griffith.
Gladys is survived by her son, Dane Griffith and wife Susan of Auburn, AL; daughter, Jackie Galvan and husband Cowboy of Maypearl, TX; grandchildren, Sadie Galvan of Maypearl, TX, Brett Portillo and wife Summer of Midlothian, TX, Gabie (Galvan) Fields and husband Kevin of Memphis, TN, Cristian Aguilar of Dallas, TX, Jesika Galvan and significant other Corey Burgess of Waxahachie, TX, Ali Galvan and significant other Andre Larry of Maypearl, TX, Shelton Griffith of Auburn, AL; great-grandchildren, Tre Portillo, Kasen Handy, Kashlyn Fields, Summit Portillo, Adelaide Larry, Keona Fields, Harper Blu Rife, Kinzy Fields and Jayce Fields; brother, Robert Matthews of Plainview, TX; sisters, Rosalee King and husband Al of San Angelo, TX and Arline Jones and husband D.I. of Waskom, TX.
The family request in Lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
The family will receive family and friends for a visitation on Monday, January 7, 2019 from 6-8PM at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Waxahachie, Texas.
