The Milford Bulldogs are one win from a state championship appearance.
Milford defeated Union Hill, 51-38, on Friday night at Lion Stadium in Kaufman. It was the third round of the six-man Division I playoffs.
The Bulldogs scored three times in the first quarter and then shutout Union Hill in the second quarter to take a 26-8 lead into the halftime locker room. They added two scores in each of the third and fourth quarters.
As a team, Milford ball carriers rushed 27 times for 231 yards (8.1 yards-per-carry) and three touchdowns.
Senior quarterback Taron Smith led the way with nine rushes for 106 yards and two touchdowns. He also completed 13-of-his-20 passes for 166 yards and four touchdowns — two to Jasean Brooks (5-55) and one each to Corbin Schrotke (3-49) and Ricky Pendleton (1-42).
Brooks also returned a kickoff for a touchdown and recovered one fumble.
Pendleton also rushed seven times for 71 yards and one touchdown.
Schrotke led the defense with nine tackles, while Pendleton had eight and Brooks and Jaylon Davis both had six.
Damyan Woodward had four interceptions and two pass deflections. Smith picked off two Union Hill passes, as well.
The Bulldogs will now face Leakey in the UIL six-man Division I state semifinals next weekend.
The (12-1) Leakey Eagles defeated Gorman on Friday night, 68-36.
Sophomore quarterback Hunter Williams (No. 2) leads the Leakey offense with 727 yards passing and six touchdowns on 36-of-58 through the air. Abel Montoya, a freshman, has also tossed for 251 yards and eight touchdowns on 14-of-25 passing.
Williams is the leading rusher for the Eagles with 2,061 yards and 35 touchdowns on 179 carries. Trace Lackey (No. 21) has carried the football 130 times for 1,048 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Leakey is a town of 425 people that sits about 100 miles west of San Antonio.
The UIL six-man Division I state semifinal game is at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bulldog Stadium in Burnet.
