Thanksgiving came a little early this year for United Way of West Ellis County.

UWWEC hosted its 10th annual golf tournament on Sept. 14 at the Mansfield National Golf Course, raising over $12,629.21 – a 50 percent increase from last year, according to director of programs Stephanie Bowman.

The organization has donated the proceeds towards Manna House’s Thanksgiving drive. They collected food donations that were provided to Manna House Tuesday morning.

Bowman said the impact of the proceeds garnered from the golf tournament are hard to measure but easy to see and feel.

“School kids out for the summer had a healthy meal and a supervised place to spend their time,” she wrote in an email. “Boys and girls whose families wouldn't be able to cover the cost were able to participate in scouting. The Miracle League has a field to call their own. Seniors can have a healthy meal delivered to them by Meals on Wheels or choose to spend their day at one of our awesome senior centers.”

“Every story made me smile,” she concluded. “For the cost of Netflix every month, you can impact lives throughout Ellis County.”
