The countdown has begun for the New Year. Through a partnership with Ellis County Women in Business and United Way of West Ellis County, an evening of adult fun is on tap for the Ellis County area.

On Dec. 31, all adults 21 years and older can attend the Havana night-themed party at the Waxahachie Civic Center.

“The idea is that we want to bring a fun New Year's Eve opportunity to the people of Ellis County,” emphasized Casey Ballard, United Way of West Ellis County Executive Director. “To be right here in their own community, to have a fun, and a safe way to bring in the New Year all at the same time —we are benefiting some really amazing programs in the community.”

The fundraiser, hosted by ECWIB, benefits United Way of Ellis County, which will funnel proceeds to local nonprofits that help vulnerable women and children in Ellis County. The New Year's Eve bash will also raise money for the ECWIB to provide scholarships to young, female leaders.

With the Havana night-themed party, salsa dancers from Beto and Son in Dallas will join the party to demonstrate and provide lessons. A section of the ballroom will be designated for dancing, gaming and a photo booth. Also, Cuban and Latin-inspired heavy hors d'oeuvre will be served along with an open bar. There will even be a churro and cigar bar.

Live music and a DJ will provide the entertainment.

“It’s going to feel more like a party than a fundraiser,” Ballard assured.

Julie Sides, a member of ECWIB, mentioned the organization and UWWEC arranged discounted rates with the two hotels in proximity to the Waxahachie Civic Center — Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott and Hampton Inn & Suites Waxahachie. New Years Eve partygoers will receive a special rate to these hotels and with Lift and Uber.

A single ticket cost $100 while a bundle of two costs $175. Tickets can be purchased at www.uwwec.org/eve.

“Another thing we are doing is VIP tables [of eight] for people who want to come in and buy a table for $1,500," explained Sides. "It gets you a basket of goodies, and additional swag and reserved, better seating."

“We are really excited about the partnership with Ellis County Women in Business,” Ballard expressed. “They are a newly formed group that’s super energetic and passionate about serving their community. We are really excited about the first year to create this opportunity for Ellis County.”

Ballard and Sides thanked the presenting sponsor, Citizens National Bank, and other sponsors: Baylor Scott & White Medical Center — Waxahachie, Community National Bank & Trust, Linebarger, Goggan, Sampson & Blair, Roofing & Restoration Services of America, LLC and Superior Construction Services. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. If interested, contact Ballard at cballard@uwwec.org.
