Each year, the annual Maypearl FFA auction raises more than $20,000 to go toward scholarships to local students, according to auction organizer Geneva McAskill.

The Maypearl FFA Booster Club is hosting the third annual auction on Saturday from 4—11 p.m. Patrons will be entertained by two live and local musicians — Greg Matthers and Mikey Terry — while the Maypearl FFA Booster Club will provide a free barbecue lunch that consists of sausage, brisket, beans and potato salad.

Out of the list of auction items, McAskill highlighted the metal signs and fire pits that were designed and created by Maypearl High School FFA students. Other auction items include a charcoal barrel grill, jewelry, blankets, a rolling Yeti cooler, a crossbred heifer, a farmer starter kit, a Michelob Ultra bicycle, hand-crafted knives with stamped leather sheaths, beer-inspired propaganda and more.

“At the beginning, our FFA chapter did not have a lot of funding going on for them or for scholarships through the booster club, so we started doing it, and it’s our third year,” McAskill said.

The event will run as a live auction with veteran auctioneers Steve Massey and James Parten running the show. “They have been donating their time to the auction for the past three years,” McAskill added.

Admission to the event is free, and those interested in the auction will be required to fill out a form to obtain a bidding number. Bidders can use a debit/credit card, check or cash.

The auction will take place at Maypearl Hay and Feed, located at 310 S. Main St. Those interested in going can learn more at the Facebook page,
