Matthew Joseph McRedmond, age 72, entered Heaven’s gates on the morning of Thursday, September 27, 2018 at his home in Ovilla, Texas. He joined his father, mother, sisters Jeanie and Alice in Heaven.

Joe was born in Dallas, Texas on July 25, 1946 to Catherine Helen (Bergob) and Martin Anthony McRedmond, Sr.

He is survived by his daughters Kelly Trice and husband James, and grandchildren Jake (12) and Elle (9) of Ovilla, Matty Stanglin and husband Willy of Red Oak; sisters Dottie Weed, Fran McRedmond, Kathleen Kahil, Ellen McRedmond, Joan Cannon; brothers Tony McRedmond, David McRedmond; mother of his children Marsha Bownds.

Joe grew up in Dallas as a member of a large Catholic family. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church with his 9 brothers and sisters. He transitioned from altar boy at St. Vincent’s Seminary in Cape Girardeau, Missouri with aspirations of priesthood. Shortly after graduation, he realized that he “wanted to be a dad” and what an amazing dad and grandfather he became.

Joe was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish throughout his life. He was a member of the Ellis County Lonestar Cowboy Church. Joe was a great cook and a friend to all. He had a heart as big as Texas.

In Lieu of Flowers, the family would prefer donations to Texas Parks & Wildlife Inland Fisheries Management.

Celebration of Life at 6:00 PM Monday in Byrum Funeral Chapel in Lancaster.
