The Waxahachie Cherokee Charmers are hosting a cheer clinic for hopeful future charmers that will conclude with an opportunity to take the field in honor of breast cancer survivors.
Registration is now open but the deadline is fast approaching for students between ages five and 15 to participate in the Future Cherokee Charmer Fall Dance Clinic.
Attendees will have the opportunity to perform at the "Pink Out" game when Waxahachie takes on Mansfield Lake Ridge at Stuart B. Lumpkins Stadium on Friday, Oct. 12.
The clinic will take place Oct. 8 and 11 from 5:45—7:30 p.m. at the Mike Turner Gymnasium at Waxahachie High School.
During the clinic, students will learn spirit lines and the pre-game routine. Waxahachie Cherokee Charmer coach Erica Pointer-Wilcox stated students should wear modest attire conducive for stretching and dancing, which includes jazz shoes or non-marking tennis shoes, and hair in a ponytail for practice. She also requested that students do not wear jewelry.
On Oct. 12, all participants will check-in at Lumpkins Stadium. From 5:35—6:15 p.m. the students will review the routine and enjoy a pre-game snack. All participants will take the field for the pre-game field routine honoring breast cancer survivors, followed by spirit lines with Charmers.
The registration deadline is Sept. 24. to receive a guaranteed shirt.
The clinic price is $50, which includes dance instruction, performance t-shirt, performance headband, pre-game snack and game performance. A Charmer multi-clinic package deal is available for $100, which consists of the main clinic and registers the student for dance extravaganza (performance at basketball game, regular price $50), one ticket to Chillin’ With The Charmers ($5 value) and performance at spring show in March, along with one adult ticket.
The registration packet emphasized that this is the only time that the spring show performance will be offered to future charmers.
Late registration for the clinic is $55 and does not guarantee a shirt.
