The Ellis County SPCA raised just over $79,000 at the seventh annual dinner and auction on Aug. 25.
The executive director for the local SPCA, Chris Bennett, thanked title sponsor Citizens National Bank and the rest of those who helped make the event a success.
The auction included Dallas Mavericks tickets to timeshares and sold all but one of the auction items.
Bennett then thanked all 400 people in attendance.
“Thank you to everyone in attendance this year and those who have come out year after year to purchase the amazing auction items so generously donated by so many merchants. Every penny goes to getting as many animals as we can into their forever homes,” Bennett said.
The money raised at the Ellis County SPCA Dinner and Auction will benefit programs, off-site events and provide supplies to the shelter and daily operations.
In 2017 alone, the Ellis County SPCA adopted out 1,889. Annually, the Ellis County SPCA spends about $20,000 a year to spay and neuter animals. The nonprofit also recently got involved with PAWS of Hope where dogs are sent to the Sardes Estes Unit — a prison in Venus — to undergo training. It costs roughly $1,000 to prep 12 dogs for the endeavor.
