A two-vehicle accident that claimed the life of Red Oak resident Samuel Batiste, 24, on Aug. 8 remains under investigation by the Red Oak Police Department.

The accident occurred at 10:08 a.m. in the 1500 block of E. Ovilla Road.

Red Oak Police Lt. Marc Schroeder stated a Red Oak ISD Police officer first notified dispatchers about the accident. The officer reported drivers of the vehicles — Batiste, and Mariah Nicole Hope, 24, of Red Oak — appeared to be injured.

“Red Oak Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to the scene, and dispatchers advised that Ferris Police and fire personnel were already on scene,” Schroeder said. “Red Oak Police personnel arrived on scene and started their investigation and observed two involved vehicles with heavy front-end damage.”

Schroeder stated Careflight Air Ambulance transported Batiste to Methodist Hospital in Dallas for his injuries. The female driver was transported by an American Medical Response ground ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Dallas.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner notified Red Oak Police that Batiste was pronounced deceased at 8:43 a.m. on Sunday. The accident remains under investigation.
