Through the execution of a search warrant, Ennis Police confiscated almost 10 pounds of marijuana and 7,000 grams of edibles containing THC.

Resident Ricky Ortiz, 38, was arrested in connection with the Aug. 9 raid that occured in the 600 block of E. Burnett Street.

Officer Roger Cole stated the arrest of Ortiz came after months of investigation.

“Mr. Ortiz was selling these drugs to the locals and even children,” Cole said. “He is looking at a felony charge that is punishable up to a $10,000 fine and five years to 99 years in prison.”

Ortiz was first booked into the Ennis City jail and was later transferred to the Wayne McCollum Detention Center on Aug. 10. He was first charged with possession of marijuana greater than or equal to five pounds but less than or equal to 50 pounds. The second charge Ortiz faces is possession of a controlled substance penalty group 2 greater than or equal to 400 grams.

According to online records from the detention center, Ortiz was given a $200,000 bond. As of Wednesday, Ortiz was no longer listed as an inmate at the facility.

Cole credits the successful arrest to hard work done by the staff at the Ennis Police Department.
