Italy Police investigators are soliciting the public for leads after a 59-year-old man was found dead Friday from a gunshot wound to the head.
Italy Police Capt. Scott Peters stated police were dispatched at about 6:15 p.m. to a home in the 700 block of Williams Street where Richard Earl Wilson was found deceased in the backyard of his residence.
“Officers responded to a non-responsive male. When they arrived, paramedics had made the determination that he was deceased,” Peters said. “Officers were called, and a crime scene was set up, and we have been investigating it since as a murder.”
Peters stated the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be from a homicide.
Police are following any information they have received from several sources. No arrests have been made and no suspects are been identified at this point in the investigation.
Peters stated some residents reported hearing a gunshot around the suspected time of the incident, though police do not believe anyone else was at home at the time. The house does not have a call history with the police department.
Members of the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers are providing assistance on the case.
Peters encourages the public to come forward with any information on the case.
“They might have something that they might think is insignificant, but coupled with what we have it makes it a huge piece,” Peters said.
