The Daily Light and Midlothian Mirror have added a new member to the management team.
Jennifer Chelwick begins Monday as the general manager of the newspaper group and will oversee advertising, marketing and circulation sales. She has over 12 years of experience in the media industry, working for national brands such as E.W. Scripps, Gannett, and Cox Media Group.
Chelwick, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in communications from Loyola Marymount University, most recently served as the multimedia sales manager for Cox Media's The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Chelwick said she is excited to begin fostering relationships with both the longtime residents of Waxahachie and those who have just recently discovered what a "magical place it is to live, work and play."
"I cannot emphasize how I am looking forward to working for a publishing group as progressive as GateHouse Media," Chelwick added. "GHM believes in local business and local journalism and the Waxahachie Daily Light is an amazing voice, dedicated to its citizens. I truly look forward to building strong relationships and focusing on issues that are key to the residents of Waxahachie."
Chelwick joins a four-person management team that includes Clarice Touhey, regional publisher; Wendy Anderson, regional accounting and human resources manager; and Travis Smith, managing editor.
Touhey echoed Chelwick's excited and said, "We are so excited to have someone with Jennifer's experience in advertising and marketing join our team. She comes highly recommended by others within the GateHouse family and will be a fantastic addition to our office and Ellis County."
Anderson piggybacked Touhey and added Chelwick "brings a proven track record of success that is going to take our advertising and circulation departments to positive levels not seen in recent history."
Smith pointed to the wealth of knowledge Chelwick brings to the digital side of advertising — such as with SEM, SEO, social media marketing and programmatic advertising — as the biggest addition to the team. He noted those skills will not only benefit the WDL but local business owners, as well.
"From the Houston Chronicle to Scripps, Jennifer has proven time and again that she has the skills and passion for helping business owners grow their brand and attract new customers," Smith said. "Not only will she be a guiding hand that our sales team has needed for some time, but she will also be a driving marketing force that our local businesses have never realized was available. This is a huge get for the Daily Light and an even bigger win for Waxahachie."
