The Waxahachie Symphony Association kicks off the summer with the classic country music of The Almost Patsy Cline Band at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Nicholas P. Sims Library.

Held during a weekend that celebrates Waxahachie’s historic architecture, the library offers a magnificent setting for the WSA’s 3rd annual Music Under the Oaks free concert.

“We’re excited to provide an evening of beautiful music for locals and visitors during the Gingerbread Trail weekend,” said Melissa Chapman, President of the Waxahachie Symphony Association. “The library is a perfect location for the community to come relax and enjoy a free concert outdoors with friends, family, and a picnic.”

The Almost Patsy Cline Band is known for preserving country music’s past with stirring, heartfelt renditions and stories about the best of yesteryears like Patsy Cline, Bob Wills, Johnny Cash, Ray Price, Mel Tillis, Merle Haggard, Connie Smith, and other superstars of the Opry. This talented five-piece group could just as easily have been named for ''almost'' any country and western star of the 1940s, '50s, '60s, or '70s because they showcase hits from all of them.

“The Almost Patsy Cline Band will perform a collection of classic country music brought to life through narration and song,” Chapman said. “Interactive and fun, their concerts are known for getting audiences on their feet and dancing in the aisles, or in this case, we hope on the grass.”

Since 2008, the band has held a coveted spot on the Texas Commission on the Arts touring roster, a “Who’s Who” of Texas entertainers who tour the state. This dynamic five-piece band captivates audiences everywhere they go. Their vocal harmonies and extraordinary instrumentation is crowd-pleasing until the very last song.

“Nobody sang with more heart than Patsy Cline. Every note was moving, energetic and sincere, just like a performance of The Almost Patsy Cline Band,” Chapman continued. “When you hear this band, you'll be taken back to a simpler time, when you could dance the night away without a care.”

Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnics to this free family concert under the oaks at Sims Library. "Music Under the Oaks" is generously sponsored by H-E-B.

Sims Library is located at 515 W. Main Street. Bathroom facilities will be available. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved indoors to the Library's Lyceum.
