In what has become typical Ovilla Christian baseball fashion, the Eagles punched their tickets to the TAPPS Division 5 state tournament with a run-rule victory Friday.
Ovilla hung a crooked number in all four of the Eagles' half-inning against Sherman Texoma Christian for the 14-0 regional championship win.
Ryan Sardina earned the win on the mound. He struck out eight without issuing a walk and allowed five hits. He needed just 62 pitches on the evening.
Connor Bjerke (3-3, 4 RBI, 4 R) delivered the two biggest blows for the Eagles with a pair of run-scoring triples in the second and third innings.
Lucas Glenn and Hunter Roe also collected a triple and drove in two runs, while Glenn and Sardina supplied the two Ovilla doubles.
Alex Ramirez went 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored, as well.
Not only did the win vault the Eagles into the state tournament, but it also kept Ovilla undefeated on the season (17-0).
The Eagles have outscored their opposition 224-23 to the tune of 13.2 runs per game. Ovilla has also recorded fewer than 10 runs in a ballgame just three times and 14 run-rule victories.
After a first-round bye, Ovilla defeated Fort Worth Bethesda (16-1) and then Sherman Texoma Christian on Thursday.
Ovilla now takes on (10-2) Muenster Sacred Heart at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Crosby High School, located at 333 Red Summit Drive in Crosby, in the TAPPS Division 5 state semifinal.
That winner faces the winner of (15-5) Lake Jackson Brazosport Christian and (17-0-1) New Braunfels Christian in the state championship game at noon Saturday at Crosby Field.
Lake Jackson Brazosport Christian and New Braunfels Christian play at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens.
