It is all about beer this weekend at Scarborough Renaissance Festival with the Royal Ale Festival and the all-new Stein Holding competition.

From noon – 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 28—29 in the Crown Pavilion, Adults 21 and older can enjoy samplings of craft beers — including a couple of local favorites — while being entertained by Scarborough performers and enjoying tasty snacks. Tickets are $10 (in addition to Festival admission) and may be purchased in advance at SRFestival.com or at the Festival on event days.

Featured beers include Cigar City Jai Alai IPA, Bishops Apple Pineapple, Franconia Maibock, Billy Jenkins Wild Acre, Deep Ellum Dallas Blonde, Founders Dirty Bastard, Franconia Amber and Oasis London Homesick Pale Ale. Participants in the Ale Festival will also receive a $2 discount coupon for the beer of their choice at one of our 12 pubs and taverns following the Royal Ale Festival.

Visitors to Scarborough Renaissance Festival will also have the opportunity to participate in the all-new Stein Holding competition each day at 2 p.m. for a chance to win one of the collectible Scarborough Renaissance Festival steins. Contestants can register and get all the details on the competition at the Front Gate.

“If you are into beer, then this is definitely the weekend you want to come to Scarborough Renaissance Festival," said Coy Sevier, General Manager. “Craft beers are extremely popular and The Royal Ale Festival gives our visitors the chance to sample some of the finest brews while enjoying the fun and festivities of Scarborough! Plus Scarborough’s very own brewmaster will also be on hand throughout the event to answer questions and give visitors more in-depth information about the beers. You don’t want to miss it!”

Saturday, April 28 will also be the 2018 Deaf Awareness Day. The outstanding sign language interpreters from Hired Hands, Inc. will provide interpretations for performances at all 27 stages throughout the day for the hearing impaired.

The limited-engagement performers this weekend are the comedic juggling trio, “The London Broil Show."

Guest artisans this weekend are Painted by U, Storm Leather Werks, and SWS Cutlery. New Festival Artisans for the 2018 season include Enchanted Chains, Hang De Sign, Living Art & Lanterns, Magpie’s Trick, Runaway Rabbit Press and Three Bells Tapestries.

Wine Tastings this weekend feature Avant-Garde wines and the daily Beer Tastings — which is a much more in-depth and intimate tasting experience than the Royal Ale Festival — will feature "Some Like it Dark" beers. The tastings sell out fast, so it is recommended that patrons purchase tasting tickets in advance.

Upcoming themed weekends and special events are the Live the Fantasy and Spring Celebration Weekend May 5—6, Celebrating Chivalry Weekend and the Mother’s Day Brunch May 12—13 and the Legends of the Seas Weekend May 19—20. Each weekend offers a variety of special entertainment and activities.
