Rather quietly, the Venus Lady Bulldogs have put together one of the better softball seasons in a once tight District 8-4A race.

And it has happened in a hurry.

A little over 20 days ago the Lady Bulldogs fell 11-4 on the road to Midlothian Heritage. The loss was their second consecutive defeat, third over the last four games and had Venus on the outside of the playoff picture looking in.

Since then though— boy.

With the latest win — a 10-4 defeat of Midlothian Heritage at home — Venus has now won six consecutive ballgames by a combined 40-9 and clinched one of four District 8-4A playoff spots.

The Lady Bulldogs did not just punch their postseason ticket with the win, though. They forced a three-way tie of second place with (20-9, 8-4) Godley and (18-12, 8-4) Stephenville.

Venus ends the regular season with an 8-4 district record and 14-7-1 overall. The return to the postseason is the first for the Lady Bulldogs since 2015 when they bowed out in the bi-district round.

At the plate, the Lady Bulldogs are led by Alexis Jasso (.431, HR, 6 2B, 18 RBI), Kaylee Davis (.361, 3 HR, 4 3B, 8 2B, 16 RBI) and Natalie Lopez (.429, 2 HR, 4 2B, 17 RBI).

Peyton Willey and Davis lead the team with three round-trippers on the season, but six Lady Bulldogs have left the yard on the year.

Davis has also led the way inside the circle. She has 230 strikeouts and allowed just 17 earned runs (62 runs) on 66 hits over her 109.1 innings pitched. Davis has also only issued 33 free passes.

Venus begins its postseason journey at 7 p.m. Thursday against Kennedale at Mansfield Timberview High School.
