The American Volleyball Coaches Association named Aeriel Horton, a 2015 Waxahachie graduate, and Houston Baptist University beach volleyball playing partner, Jessica Wooten as the national pair of the week Tuesday.
Wooten is a senior and Horton a sophomore for the Huskies No. 1 team.
The pair won all five matches last week at the No. 1 position, with four coming via a sweep in the Southland Showcase. As a team, the Huskies took six of the seven duals on the way to claim the Southland Showcase title.
The Huskies twice defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, three times bested New Orleans and beat Central Arkansas once.
Horton and Wooten played an integral role in the Sunday comeback when HBU was down 0-2 against New Orleans.
Moments after the Huskies' No. 2 pair of senior Kayla Armer and Tori Hinojosa completed their comeback over to even the match at 2-2, Wooten and Horton sent their match against Corcoran and Rachel Kuhn to the deciding third set. They roared out to a 10-1 lead and claimed the match, 25-27, 21-16, 15-8.
Wooten and Horton finished the regular season with a 24-6 record and are currently the 10th-ranked pair in the country.
