Wilma Louise Elliott Thomas, 80, of Palmer passed away in Waxahachie on Thursday, April 5th.
Wilma was born in Eastland, Texas, on July 12, 1937 to B.J. and Dora Elliott. She graduated from Olden High School & attended Texas Christian University. On December 2, 1962 she married Hayman Thomas from Olden, TX. They made their home in Mesquite before moving to Palmer in 1976. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Palmer – serving in many capacities including pianist and organist. Once her girls were in elementary & junior high she went to work for Ennis Fire Dept. doing ambulance billing. From there she work for Palmer ISD and then Waxahachie ISD where she retired in 2002.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Hayman of Palmer; daughters: Teel Witt and her husband David of Palmer; Susan Schmidt and her husband Jason of Waxahachie; 6 grandchildren – James Allen, Jr., Jeffery Allen & wife Brittany, Katie Allen, Shawn Witt & wife Yvonne, Jenna Schmidt, and Conner Schmidt; 2 great grandchildren – Alexxay Witt and Samuel Allen; 3 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents – B.J. & Dora Elliott, 2 brothers and their wives Jack Elliott and wife Doris, Dean Elliott and wife Mattie, 2 nephews and a niece.
Visitation is Monday, April 9, 6-8 pm at J.E. Keever Funeral Home in Palmer. Celebration of Life is Tuesday, April 10, 2 pm, First Baptist Church of Palmer with Bro. Paul Gauntt officiating. Interment will follow at the Palmer Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Keith Elliott, David Elliott, Marvin Godden, Steven Walker, James Allen, Jr., Jeffery Allen, Shawn Witt. Honorary Pallbearer: Conner Schmidt.
