An eight-year-old school record fell on the track at Hewitt-Midway in the first meet for the Lady Indians this season. And it fell twice.
Both Emma Curry and Alyson Moore broke the school record in the 3,200-meter run set in 2010 (12:28.05) by more than 25 seconds. Curry, who placed second in the race, is the new record holder after finishing in 12:10.31. Moore crossed the finish line less than one second later and in third place with a time of 12:11.02. Emily Mackel finished fourth in the race with a time of 12:39.56.
Curry and Katie Ward both won the high jump, clearing 5-foot-0, and Curry also won the 1,600-meter run (5:38.96).
The 800-meter relay team of Tinka Granger, Delijah Johnson Kenya Jefferson and Shakera Shelby, placed first (1:53.12).
As a team, the Lady Indians finished the meet in second place with 186 points. Joshua won the meet (192.5) and Midway came in third with 158 points.
The Lady Indians return to action Friday, March 2 in the Corsicana Relays.
