Two years has been too good for Greg Gober and the Runnin' Indians in District 10-5A.
Waxahachie rode a five-point first quarter lead through three back-and-forth frames Tuesday night in Mansfield to the program's second straight district championship by defeating No. 3 Mansfield Timberview, 54-51.
The win improved TABC 5A No. 1 Waxahachie to 12-0 in district action and a sparkling 26-0 under Gober's two-year tutelage. The Runnin' Indians are 25-4 on the season with two regular season games to play.
Tre Gibson led the Tribe with 21 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor and a 9-of-11 mark at the charity stripe. The senior guard also pulled down six rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.
Qua Grant returned to action after missing all of last week with an ankle injury to score 15 points and record six boards. Larry Wise added five points and five rebounds, while JT Warren scored seven points and Demani Richardson had six.
The Runnin' Indians shot 12-of-14 from the free throw line as a team compared to the 7-of-14 showing by the Wolves.
Isaac Likekele and Chris Mullins led Timberview with 20 points, each. The Wolves shot 53 percent (21-of-39) from the field.
Waxahachie closes out the regular season Friday, Feb. 9 on the road against No. 9 (19-11, 7-5) Lancaster before returning home Tuesday, Feb. 13 to host Mansfield Lake Ridge.
