As the street reconstruction project continues on Alexander Drive a new issue has come to light: scammers.
Scammers are now claiming to represent the City of Waxahachie, going door-to-door or sending postcards offering free water testing for residents.
“We got reports from a couple of people that live on Alexander that they were misrepresenting themselves, saying that they were from the city and would do water quality tests, which is not the case,” Waxahachie Director of Communications and Marketing Amy Hollywood said. “We have not contracted with anybody. The thing is that we monitor our water quality constantly 24/7. That is just something that the water department does. That is not anything that anyone would need to pay for.”
Work on the Alexander Drive reconstruction project started Nov. 27, 2017. The project consists of repairing and installing new water and sewer lines, as well as storm drainage. It also includes the installation of American with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalks and streetlights on both sides of the street. The project is set to be completed by late summer at the latest.
According to the city’s website, the City of Waxahachie is not affiliated with the alleged company and isn't offering free water tests. If residents receive this mailer or are approached by someone at their front door, they are instructed not to accept the offer or call the company back. Residents are asked to contact the city’s Public Works Department at 469-309-4300. They can also contact the Waxahachie Police Department at 469-309-4400. The department is located at 216 N. College Street.
“Anytime a citizen has somebody soliciting services or selling anything if they have doubts at all they can call us and we will come and check that person out,” Waxahachie Police Chief Wade Goolsby said. “If they are going door-to-door they should have a solicitor permit if they are making contact to make a sales pitch. Again if they have any doubts or issues feel free and call the police department, and we will come out and check them out.”
