Mary Guerra, age 73, of Waxahachie, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018, at her home. She was born April 13, 1944, in El Paso, Texas to Francisco Guerra and Hortencia Frescas. Mary grew up in Socorro, Texas. She was a Nun with the Daughters of Charity mainly in Fort Smith Arkansas. She received her bachelor's at Our Lady of Lake University and worked as a Social Worker. She later became a Juvenile Probation Officer for many years. Mary adopted her son, Jose, in 1987 and raised him in DeSoto. She moved to Waxahachie in 2007 and worked as an Adult Probation Office for Ellis County and retired in 2009. She is a Breast Cancer Survivor. Mary loved and was very involved in her church, St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar Society and Hispanic Ministries. She was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in 2017. She was active and passionate about Pink for the Cure – Susan G. Komen for 8 years and helped with Relay for Life in Ellis County for 5 years. Mary stayed very busy devoting her life to serve others, and she stayed true to herself, her son and her church.

Survivors include her son, Jose Ernesto Guerra of Waxahachie; sisters, Gloria St. Pierre and husband Alan and Katy Alarcon and husband Victor of El Paso; brother, Frank Guerra, Jr. and wife Lydia of San Diego; numerous nieces and nephews and best friend, Dalaine Fletcher. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Dora Gonzalez.

Visitation for family and friends will be 6p – 8p Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Waxahachie with Rosary recited at 7p.

Memorial Mass will be 10a Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waxahachie.
